Like so many rural communities, we have experienced significant growth in Independence - and there will be more on the way. I support healthy growth – which is growth done properly.
We must ensure that we do not grow beyond our infrastructure’s ability to meet our needs. We cannot stretch our community’s resources too thin. We must first meet the needs of our current residents and business community before catering to the newest arrivals.
Our first responders are incredible people who sacrifice every day for our community. Our responsibility is to ensure they have the resources to keep our community safe.
Whether that is equipment, training, personnel, or technology, I want to ensure our first responders are equipped to meet the demands of their jobs to help keep the citizens of Independence safe.
We are blessed to live in an area with many places to get outside and enjoy the great parks in our city. We should continue to find ways to improve our parks and offer more chances for everyone to enjoy them.
But there is more to be done.
Let’s bring a splash pad to the city for young children to play. Let's bring a dog park to the city. Many fellow residents have expressed that they would love to enjoy these amenities here.
Let’s meet the needs of our residents and offer these amenities in Independence.
Various vibrant businesses call Independence home, and more are on the way. Many of these businesses are owned by our friends and neighbors, but there are opportunities for more locally-owned businesses to call Independence home.
With the addition of the Farmer's Market to Courthouse Square, we can boost the area with locally-owned shops or delis. We should incentivize the entrepreneurs in our community to bring their businesses to Independence.
